The purpose of this tool was originally to provide more transparency for social and political ads, but has since expanded to include all ads and advertisers. It’s important to note that although the ads library is great, it wasn’t necessarily built for marketers. That’s why we have created a comprehensive how-to guide for attorneys to easily follow along.
How Should I Use This Feature?
- Research Purposes – Search keywords and phrases for new campaign launches. You can search for terms like “personal injury attorneys,” “bankruptcy law,” “car accident attorney,” and more. Adding a location can make the searches hyper-specific. EX: “Florida Personal Injury Attorneys” This can also help you discover other local competition you may not have known about before.
- Spy on your competitors – See how you stack up 1-to-1 against your competition by viewing their active ads. You can bet your competitors are searching you!
- Filter ads by impressions – Which ads are being seen the most? Do they have anything in common? By identifying common patterns in top impression advertisers and applying similar tactics to your own campaign, you may be able to get more views on your own ads.
- See ads on all Meta platforms – What are tactics the larger brand names use? By researching your favorite household brand names, you can take a page out of their book to optimize your own ads.
- Look for ways to optimize and scale existing campaigns – Pay attention to the small details of other advertisers’ ads. Look at information like form fill questions to see if competitors are using fewer questions or more. What types of questions are they asking potential clients? Are there any your law firm might be able to add to further qualify leads?
Step By Step Guide on How to Spy on Competitor Meta Ads
Method 1 – For Known Competitors
- Step 1 – Go to your competitor’s Facebook page
- Step 2 – Navigate to their about details on the top menu
- Step 3 – Click on “page transparency” on the left side
- Step 4 – Select see all
- Step 5 – Click go to Ad Library
This will bring up all ads the page is currently running.
From here you can click into each ad for further information. Available information includes start date of the ad, platforms the ad is being delivered to (Facebook, Instagram, Audience Network, Messenger), full text captioning, creative image or video, headlines, call to actions, form fill questions, and additional information about the advertiser.
Method 2 – For General Research Purposes
- Step 1 – Go to https://www.facebook.com/ads/library
- Step 2 – Select location
- Step 3 – Select Ad Category (We recommend selecting all ad types)
- Step 4 – Type in your keywords. This can be a competitor’s name, a practice area, or a topic.
- Step 5 – Filter your search down further to find the most relevant ads for your inspiration or research. Media type is a great way to filter for creatives. It allows you to choose photos, videos, text only, and memes.
